Meet Preston Truett
LCSW-A
Therapist
Preston Truett LCSW-A earned a Master of Social Work from North Carolina State University after pivoting from his professional career in forest management. Some of his areas of interest include addiction, grief, and fostering a deeper connection to oneself, others, and the world around us. Before becoming a therapist, he worked as a Recovery Coach at Abhaya Wellness, served for six years in the North Carolina Army National Guard, and has worked in hospice care supporting individuals and families through acute and prolonged grief.
His approach to therapy is grounded in the belief that the therapeutic relationship is one of the primary drivers of change. He works to foster a connection with clients and create a space where any experience can be explored openly and honestly.
In his work with addiction, he views substance use and other addictive behaviors not as problems to eliminate, but as attempts to meet important needs. Together, he and his clients seek to better understand those patterns and generate movement toward one’s values and personal ideals. He strives to make therapy more than an intellectual exercise, viewing it instead as an opportunity for experiences that can shift perspective and open the door to meaningful change.
